Year 2 Brief 2: IDI graduate awards

For this project we were given the task of creating a 12 second sting to introduce a category on the night of the awards. The category as up to us and we could choose from a list of 8 different design disciplines as well as the overall grand prix winner.

To start this project I began with a brainstorm of design in general. This was so I didnt have to worry about specialising just yet and so I could get more general ideas which could fit anything.

From this brainstorm I was left with several areas of interest which I could build upon:

-Old traditional ways of designing VS more modern ways

-The designer and client relationship

-function VS style

-the design process

-The Bauhaus

I think that all of these could have lead to interesting conclusions but after furthering them I felt I had the best ideas when looking at traditional VS modern design.

So I continued brainstorming and idea generating for this and then decided to settle on one Idea. This is yet another new field for me to explore in the realm of live action. For the animation my main focal point will be contrasting old ways of designing within certain disciplines such as; hand knitting VS a knitting machine, or hand drawing type VS typing on a computer etc...

To do this I will take shots of old ways of designing and new ways of designing and then cut and transition between whilst also featuring masks and overlay of lots of things that are related to each subject. It will take a lot of influence from the various 'Skins' intros.

So I then had to try and plan out what exactly I wanted in the sting and what shots I needed to get. It was at this time that I decided to go for the overall grand prix animation.
I continued drawing and planning for quite a long period of time until i got the what shots, images, text i needed.
I then transferred all of this in to my complete storyboard.
